Autism & Asperger Specific Counselling

Suiting your needs

Hazelwood’s Autism and Asperger specific counselling service structures the therapy around the individual’s needs.  We make adjustments to the sessions so that you communicate and interact with your counsellor in a way that enables you to express yourself comfortably.

A specialist understanding

Our specialist counsellor has years of experience with working with Autistic and Asperger needs and has undertaken additional training to support her work.  This insight means your counsellor will likely understand your behaviours and communication styles, reducing the need for you to explain them.  It also means that sessions are focussed on building strategies and approaches to help overcome the difficulties.  Throughout your counselling, strategies are introduced to help you cope with life events and everyday social situations.

A safe space

We offer a confidential and safe space for you to explore, understand and make sense of what is going on for you.  This could be coming to terms with a new diagnosis, or understanding how being different impacts on various aspects of your life.  The setting is a relaxing and friendly one, where your differences are understood.  This makes talking about issues and difficulties easier.

We will also consider home visits where necessary.  This will be discussed on a case by case basis.

Developing strategies

We use various therapeutic approaches such as talking therapy, CBT skills, educational discussion and mind mapping.  In addition, different methods of communication are also used to develop the right strategies for managing social interactions and everyday living.
We work to improve your ability to cope with your difficulties, build your confidence and develop your social skills.
