Child Counselling

It’s not unusual for a young person to struggle with how they are feeling and finding someone who can work with children of a younger age can sometimes be quite difficult. We have trained and experienced counsellors who are able to work creatively with a younger age group. Our specialist counsellors will work with children aged 6 years and over.

Growing up can be hard and children need a little extra support when life becomes challenging. It might be that they are having problems with friends, family or school; they are anxious, depressed, angry or scared and need to talk to someone. Often, they find it too difficult to talk to people that they know. Our counsellors work with children to enable them to explore their feelings and the issues that are troubling them. In this way they can better understand their emotions, their place in the world and how they can take on challenges in future.

Counselling could be recommended for young people who are basically healthy but who are struggling with a mental health disorder such as depression or anxiety; it can address problems with anger, bereavement, bullying, relationships, low self esteem, and self-harm. The counsellor will help explore the problem, the symptoms and strategies for coping.

Hazelwood provides a non-judgemental, safe and confidential space where your child can talk freely about what’s troubling them with a counsellor who specialises in child therapy.
