Abuse

When harm has shaped your experience

Abuse can take many forms, including emotional, physical, sexual, financial, or psychological abuse, as well as neglect, discrimination, or control. It can occur in intimate relationships, families, workplaces, or during childhood, and it is often hidden or minimised by those experiencing it.

Living with abuse can leave lasting effects. People may feel frightened, confused, ashamed, or disconnected from themselves and others. It can affect self-esteem, trust, boundaries, and the ability to feel safe. Each person’s experience is different, and there is no single or “right” way to respond.

Counselling offers a confidential and non-judgemental space to talk about what you have lived through. You do not need to be certain how to describe your experience, or to be at a particular stage of change. We work with care and sensitivity, helping you make sense of your experiences, strengthen your sense of self, and explore choices for the future.

Whether the abuse is ongoing, recent, or in the past, you deserve to be listened to with respect. Support can help you feel less alone and begin to find steadier ground.
