Children and young people

Support when growing up feels hard

Growing up can be challenging, and there are times when children and young people need extra support. Changes at home or school, friendship difficulties, anxiety, low mood, anger, or loss can all affect how safe and settled they feel. Often, it can be hard to talk openly with family members, even when relationships are caring and supportive.

Hazelwood offers counselling for children and young people aged 6 years and over. Our counsellors have specialist experience in working with younger clients and adapt their approach to suit age, development, and individual needs. Sessions may be creative, conversational, or structured, depending on what feels most helpful for how they communicate and engage.

Counselling provides a safe and confidential space to explore feelings, make sense of experiences, and develop ways of coping with challenges. Over time, this can support emotional understanding, confidence, and resilience.

We work thoughtfully with parents and carers alongside the counselling, holding the child or young person’s wellbeing at the centre of the work. Support is offered with care, respect, and sensitivity to each family’s situation.
