Depression

When life feels heavy and hard to move through

There are times in life when feeling deeply sad is a natural response to what we are facing. Depression can feel different. It is often described as a sense of being stuck, where day-to-day life feels drained of colour, energy, or meaning.

Depression may follow a significant life change such as bereavement, relationship breakdown, illness, trauma, or retirement. For others, it can seem to arrive without a clear cause. Over time, depression can begin to feed on itself, bringing feelings of guilt, exhaustion, low motivation, or a sense of disconnection from things that once mattered.

Living with depression can be isolating and deeply tiring. It may affect sleep, concentration, confidence, and your ability to find enjoyment in life. Some people cope by pushing through, while others feel unable to engage at all.

Counselling offers a space to gently explore what is happening and to make sense of your experience at your own pace. There are no quick fixes, but with support, depression can ease. Therapy can help you reconnect with yourself and begin to move forward again, in ways that feel manageable for you.
